One-third of the EU’s population lives in border regions and they still face various legal and administrative obstacles in their daily life ranging from education to healthcare.
It is against this background that the European Commission recently concluded a public consultation on a directive to create the status for the European Cross-Border Association (ECBA); it is designed to address the above issues by combining forces for civil society organisations and likeminded social actors operating on along border lines.
