On 9 May 2025, Europeans will mark the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the historic proposal that laid the foundation for today’s European Union. This milestone celebrates decades of peace, prosperity, democracy, and solidarity across the continent.
To mark the occasion, EU institutions will open their doors to the public, offering a wide range of activities in Brussels, Strasbourg, Luxembourg, and across Member States. Citizens will be invited to discover how the EU works and how it impacts daily life through interactive exhibits, debates, concerts, and cultural events. Iconic landmarks around the world will be lit up in EU colours, and Expo 2025 in Osaka will host a special Europe Day programme.
Highlights include:
- European Parliament: Open days in Strasbourg (4 May) and Brussels (10 May), interactive exhibits, and a special cultural programme in Luxembourg.
- European Council/Council of the EU: Public tours and Member State showcases on 10 May, including a Council 50th anniversary selfie zone.
- European Commission: Tours of the Berlaymont, activities on EU priorities like competitiveness, rights, and democracy.
- European Central Bank: Events in Frankfurt’s Europa-Fest and a special lightshow; presence in Brussels.
- European Investment Bank: Interactive stand at the Council building, with games and insights into EIB-backed projects.
- European Court of Auditors: Family-friendly activities and quizzes in Echternach.
- European External Action Service: „Travel the World in a Day” in Brussels, with performances and global diplomacy insights.
- European Economic and Social Committee: Real-time voting simulations and exhibitions honouring 75 years of European civil society.
- European Committee of the Regions: Festival of Regions and Cities showcasing local culture, cuisine, and political engagement.
